Team 3 - Term 3 2017

Video Game TruckVideo Game Truck
I know what you're thinking: what does a video game truck have to do with school work? Well let me tell you. It’s for maths. In maths we have been doing a project on a video game truck. We use division, multiplication, adding and subtracting to find the right amount of money for the councils, the video games, sets and snacks. If you think about it, it has a lot of maths in it doesn't it?

Athletics PracticeAthletics Practice
We have Athletics Day soon so of course we have to practise. We are practising vortex, quoits and sprints at the park and high jump on the tennis courts. Each team get a lunch time to practise high jump and also we get time during the day. Years 4 to 8 can get into Western Zones, then Interzones and more!

Dream Giver WritingDream Giver Writing
In Room 9 we are writing a story about a dream giver giving dreams to all the people of the world. We watched the video from the literacy shed. Then we had to write our own story about our own dream giver giving us dreams. We had to include paragraphs, metaphors, similes and other stuff. Some people finished the story in two days, others a whole week.

Book SwapBook Swap
Recently the whole school did a book swap, where we brought in up to 3 books to get book swap tokens. They let you choose however many books you brought in to get that many new books. You didn’t have to swap books. Teams 1 and 2 swapped on Monday 4th September and Teams 3 and 4 were on Tuesday 5th September.

Going GlobalGoing Global
In Room 9 for our topic Going Global we have got into groups which are dance, language, food, tour guides, nature and geography. Team 2 is going to come down and see our expo on Monday in week 10 after lunch so we need to get ready pretty quickly.

Maths WeekMaths Week
In Room 9 for maths this week we have been doing code and angles and square times tables just for one week. The survivor series is when we get lots of questions that we have to answer correctly before we move onto the next question. When you answer the question you get $10. After you answer all of the questions you get a code, when you get all the codes it leads you to the maths treasure. Daily dollar deals is different, it is when you have 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 dollar questions, and you have to try and work them out using different code strategies.

Our novel studies are when we have quick reads of novels. The three books we are reading are Dunger, Run Pip Run and The Ghost of Grania O'Malley. What we do is we read 1, 2 or 3 chapters of the novel and then we have questions that we have to answer.

Pyjama DayPyjama Day
Pyjama Day was on Wednesday week six. Children always look forward to this day, when they get up in the morning and they can keep their pyjamas on and they get hot chocolates and marshmallows. Some children were wearing onesies and others were wearing dressing gowns. The student councillors had their gloves on and hot chocolate ready. Although it was pyjama day, everything down in Team 3 was normal, except one thing: we got to bring in games and played them with our friends in the afternoon and everyone had a wonderful time.

Mirror ArtMirror Art
For art this week Team 3 did something called positive and negative art but we used a line of symmetry down the middle. First of all we drew the shapes we wanted to mirror image. You could use straight or curvy lines or both. We cut them out and placed them where they were mirror-imaged, measuring to check. We used an A4 piece of paper and an A4 piece of paper cut in half. We put the half piece onto the A4 paper. These are two of the finished results.

Special VisitorSpecial Visitor
For topic Team 3 is learning about South America. As you know, Ecuador is a country in South America. Our special visitor was Jane Fairless who showed us a bunch of things she did in Ecuador. Jane showed us a presentation on Friday 4th August. There were pictures of the Galapagos islands, the animals, the food, the river and the place she stayed. Room 11 made presentations about the countries in South America and the group who did Ecuador had shown their presentation to the class so we knew some stuff already about Ecuador before Jane shared her presentation with us.

Negative & Positive ArtNegative & Positive Art
Negative and positive art is when you cut out a shape so you have the shape and you have the outside of the shape. We stuck the different shapes onto a base piece of paper. Then we did a different piece of negative and positive art. What we are doing now is making just one big piece of negative and positive art.

In Room 10 we have been learning about different countries in South America. What we did was we had a flag and we needed to research it. So we would need to get the population for the country and the currency (what kind of money they use) and different facts about it. For an example, Argentina's traditional sport is pato.

60 Second Speeches60 Second Speeches
In Room 9 for writing with Mrs Geoghegan we are learning to do sixty second speeches without saying "um" or speaking too slowly or quickly. To decide what are going to talk about we had to write down something, put it into a box, then whoever Mrs Geoghegan would choose would put their hand in the box and whatever they picked up that's what they would be talking about. They get 5 mins for prep. Then they would speak about it. We tried to put a lot of humour into it and laugh with everyone so they're not laughing at the person who is speaking.

Imaginary Creatures WritingImaginary Creatures Writing
In Room 9 for writing we have been writing about our imaginary creatures we created from paper mâché. First we did a very detailed plan including the introduction, appearance, habitat, life cycle, predators and prey, diet and a conclusion. Next we wrote the information report on our creatures and made sure it sounded realistic.  Finally we got to the point of publishing and beautification.

Harry Potter Character AnalysisHarry Potter Character Analysis
In Room 11 our class novel is Harry Potter (The Philosopher's Stone). We have been listening to an audiobook and then on the Chromebook we write in our character analysis to see what we know about the character and what the character is like. We have listed down as much as we can so that when you read it you feel like you know the character (eg. Dumbledore is humble, he... ). So far we have listened to chapters 1 to 5. Some of the characters were Harry Potter, Albus Dumbledore and Dudley Dursley.
