Student Events – 2024

Pink Shirt Day

A couple of weeks ago was a day where we spread kindness, a day where we spread the word about no bullying: Pink Shirt Day! Places all around celebrated this day but for our school we decided to have a bake sale. This bake sale had many people that had donated food and money. You would think that the school raised 80 or 100 dollars, well it was $577! The money went to the What’s Up Helpline.

Report Writing in Kākā

Recently in Kākā there has been much writing on the environment. Most recently, we have been writing on  different habitats and  animals in the sea. Some write on dolphins, sharks, fish, stingray, octopuses, coral reefs, and lakes. The work has been very fun, and mahi rangahau is definitely tied into it.

Tessellations in Kōtare

This term Kōtare 1 made tessellation art which is where you choose one or two shapes and trace them on a piece of paper then colour it in. When you put the shapes together they have to connect and if they do it makes a really cool effect.

Ko Wai Au?

In Kōtare and Tīeke we have been working on an amazing piece of art. We call it Ko Wai Au / Who Am I. This tells everyone what we enjoy, what we like and of course who you are. Instead of writing we put pictures up. It looks very bright and colourful on our walls and I think everyone will agree with me.

Face Art in Kākā

For most of term 1, team Kākā have been making awesome face art to decorate our walls. This art was all about sharing the things we like with  other people so instead of a normal portrait, we had a photo of  our face taken and then we cut it in half and filled one side of our face with the things we like, for example my nose is a guitar. This art was very fun and it looks awesome on display.
